Ember is made by Selenly LLC. This policy describes exactly what the app stores, why, and what you can do about it. It is short because the app collects little.

What we store

• Your account. You can explore Ember as a guest. Each installation carries a random identifier so that your saved choices survive an app restart. If you choose to pair with a partner, Ember asks you to continue with Apple on iOS or Google on Android. We store the identifier that provider gives us and, if the provider supplies it, your email address. We never receive your Apple or Google password, and there is no password of ours to store.
• The name you type for your partner to see. It is optional and can be anything.
• Which positions you liked, which ones you marked as tried, and any rating you gave. This is stored as a position number, not as text.
• Your pairing — which account is linked to which partner.
• Your subscription status, so the app knows whether Ember+ access or a free trial is active.
• Usage statistics, described in full in the next section.

Usage statistics

We record how the app is used, so that we can see which parts of it work and which do not. This is our own measurement: the records go to Ember's own server and stay there. There is no Google Analytics, no Firebase, no Facebook SDK, no advertising network and no analytics company of any kind involved, and nothing here is ever used to follow you into another app or website, or shared with anyone.

What a record contains: which screen you were on and for how long, and that an action happened — a card was swiped, a match was made, the dice were rolled, a truth-or-dare card was drawn, the subscription screen was opened, a plan was bought or the screen was closed. Alongside it we keep your account identifier, a random identifier for this installation, the app version, the language you use the app in, and the time.

What a record never contains, by design: the position on the card, the text of a truth-or-dare card, the words on the dice, your name or your partner's, or any other text from inside the app. Only counts, screen names and short labels are accepted; the server discards anything else before it is stored, so a record can say “a card was drawn” but can never say which one.

These records are deleted after six months, and immediately if you delete your account. Their one purpose is to improve Ember. They are not used for advertising, not used to build a profile of you, and never sold or shared.

What your partner sees

Only the name you set, and a position you both liked. A position you liked alone is never shown to your partner, and there is no way for either of you to see the other's swipes. Nothing in the usage statistics above is visible to your partner.

What we do not do

• No advertising, no ad identifier, no advertising networks.
• No third-party analytics, no tracking across apps or websites, and no data brokers. The usage statistics described above are our own and go nowhere else.
• We never sell or share your data.
• The app has no photo, camera, contacts, location or microphone access.

Payments

Subscriptions are sold by Apple App Store or Google Play, depending on your device. We never see your card or billing details. Purchase validation is handled by RevenueCat, Inc., which receives your Ember account identifier and the store receipt so that your subscription follows your account and can cover your linked partner.

Where it lives, and for how long

Data is held on servers in the United States and kept only while your account exists. Usage statistics are additionally deleted after six months, whether or not your account is still open.

Deleting everything

Open Profile → Delete account. This erases your account, your name, your likes, your tried list, your ratings, your pairing and your usage statistics, immediately and permanently. You do not need to ask us, and there is no recovery step. You can also clear only your likes from the same screen. If you cannot open the app, follow the instructions on our account deletion page.

We keep one number that survives this: a count of how many accounts were deleted on each day. It contains no identifier of any kind and cannot be traced to you or to your phone.

Children

Ember is intended only for adults aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
